Idina Menzel
Was born Idina Kim Mentzel on May 30th, 1971 in Syosset, New York. Parents are Stuart and Helene Mentzel. Idina dropped the “t” from her surname so people could pronounce it.
She became a wedding singer to make money and got her lucky break when she auditioned for a musical called Rent, and was cast in the role of Maureen. It became a huge Broadway sensation in 1997. There she met her husband Taye Diggs, who was cast in the role of Benny.
She won the Tony for Best Actress in 2005 for Wicked.
