The dude is a whiney namby pamby freak!
Shinji is just what a normal teenager would be like if faced with that kind of crap. That's what makes fans hateful of him – because he's a reflection of themselves, practically, no matter how much they say it would "kick ass" to be an Eva pilot. And there's my two cents.
