Text messaging, or texting is the common term for the sending of "short" (160 characters or fewer, including spaces) text messages from mobile phones using the Short Message Service (SMS). It is available on most digital mobile phones and some personal digital assistants with on-board wireless telecommunications. The individual messages which are sent are called text messages or, more colloquially, texts or SMS.
SMS gateways exist to connect mobile SMS services with instant message (IM) services, the world wide web, desktop computers, and even landline telephones (through speech synthesis). Devices which can connect to mobile phones and PDAs through protocols such as Bluetooth can also sometimes use that link to send SMS messages over the wireless network. SMS arose as part of the widely deployed GSM protocol, but is now also available with non-GSM systems.
The most common application of the service is person-to-person messaging, but text messages are also often used to interact with automated systems, such as ordering products and services for mobile phones, or participating in contests. There are some services available on the Internet that allow users to send text messages free of direct charge to the sender.

txt msgs, are sometimes annoying.. when the same person is always sending you the same messages and he’s the only person you see on your inbox.. nyahahaha!

texting is a fun way to communicate but not very reliable
Texting is pretty cool, if there's a situation where you can't call someone, you can just slip them a txt msg.

I know someone who sends 1000 texts a month…
My plan has 400 a month. I've never gone over but I've come close… I can't even imagine 1000 texts. My cousin sent over 5000 in a month (although I didn't even know she had friends, since she's VERY obnoxious) and they weren't on her plan, needless to say my uncle took her phone.
Lol. I do about 100 a month. Not too bad! :)
I have unlimited texting.. I send about 6000 a month.. mattering..sometimes 5000.. my record was 7592

i have unlimited too.. but it counts incoming texts and IM's also. so thats why one would buy unlimited…. b.c its the BEST!

Oh, my cell is also an MP3 player, so whenever I get a text message "Jude Law & A Semester Abroad" by Brand New plays until I read it.

I absolutely love texting! And what's really weird is that someone just texted me as I clicked on this. It wasn't even anyone who I was texting today. But seriously, texting is great. Like when I'm at work and I'm not allowed to be on the phone bc I cashier or work the Food Ave/Pizza Hut Express at Target, I just text people. I send tons of texts every month! I have a prepaid phone that only uses 0.3 units for texts, so texting is cheaper than actually calling someone. And I feel more open when I text people than when I call them.
@Temptation… :If it weren't for texting, I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with certain people. In that respect- txtng is th bst!! LOL!!
Alot of time I'm not available to answer my phone, so people who need to get in touch with me send a text instead.
